THE 74-YEAR-OLD OWNER (FOREGROUND) WAS SELLING HIS FARM AND EQUIPMENT AFTER A LIFETIME OF WORKING THE LAND. HE BOUGHT A SMALL HOUSE FOR HIMSELF AND HIS WIFE IN THE NEARBY VILLAGE OF SEARLES. IT WAS OBVIOUS DURING THE SALE THAT MUCH HEARTBREAK WENT INTO THE DECISION TO SELL

Flip Schulke (b. Graeme Phelps Schulke, June 24, 1930, Cornish, N.H.-d. May 15, 2008, West Palm Beach, Fla.), was one of America’s premier photojournalists for more than 40 years.
